The Procedure: Step By Step

It starts with a consultation
To find out whether or not you're a candidate for hair restoration surgery, call today for a complementary consultation at 305-476-9544 or 305-588-3015 You'll meet and consult with Dr. Bernard Cohen, who will review your medical history, conduct your examination and answer any and all of your questions.

On the same visit, you’ll have an opportunity to tour our facility and meet our multilingual medical team. When you’re ready to proceed, they’ll help you with scheduling, travel, and lodging. You’ll be gently and patiently walked through the process, every step of the way.

Alternatives to a consultation
We welcome telephone or E-mail consultations. This has proven to be very valuable for those patients who live far away. By using our unique hair loss graphic method, all we need is a brief medical history. Photos are best but they are not necessary. See Online Consultation.

Planning for the procedure
We request several blood tests to confirm your good health, and if you are over 55, we suggest a medical clearance by your private physician. Once scheduled, you'll be given printed instructions of everything you need to do in preparation. And you won't be charged for the operating room, anesthesia, or follow up visits; they are all included in one comprehensive procedure fee.

The day of the procedure
hair restoration, miamiOn the day of your procedure, you'll meet our hair transplant team. The procedure is essentially painless; we use local anesthesia administered with a computerized micro-droplet slow flow device. And don't forget CDs, tapes and DVDs, and videos; bring them along to help pass the time, or we can give you a pill to simply take a nap. Almost all of our patients remark that the procedure was much easier than they thought it would be.

The procedure itself
hair transplantation, miami The procedure is performed by Dr. Cohen and his team of 8-10 technicians. Sessions range in size from 1000 to 3000 grafts depending on the extent of your hair loss. Special techniques are used that make the experience essentially pain free and none of your existing hair will be visibly shaved or cut. The procedure is rarely more than 5 hours, and when it's time to leave, no bandage will be applied. You'll be given prescriptions for your post-procedure medications, and detailed printed instructions for your aftercare. Return the next morning for a quick check up and thorough cleaning of the procedure site. Of course, Dr. Cohen can be reached 24/7 for any questions you might have. .
.

After the procedure
Return to work in one day, and resume normal activities in 4 days. The sutures should be removed by us or a medical provider of your choice, 10 to 14 days following the procedure. The transplanted hair will grow for about two or three weeks and then fall out. It will start to regrow in about 3 to 5 months and will continue to grow a half inch a month for the rest of your life. The hair may be cut, curled, straightened, colored, etc. It will look, feel, and behave just like the hair you once had! Expect no bumps or dimples on the skin in the transplanted area... the texture will be unchanged. The scar on the back of your head (the donor site) will be barely visible.
